Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution is a contact lens solution formulated to provide additional moisture. It keeps more moisture on contacts for 12 hours compared to Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution, based on a laboratory study, in addition to cleaning and disinfecting lenses.

Both Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution and Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution provide exceptional cleaning and disinfection, and hydrate lenses. They remove dirt and protein buildup for clean, clear lenses.

Both solutions have features inspired by the biology of the eye: they contain hyaluronan (HA), a moisturizer found naturally in tears; and match the pH of healthy tears to help make contacts comfortable when you put them in.

Additionally, both products provide up to 20 hours of moisture (based on a laboratory study) and all day comfort.

What’s different: Biotrue Hydration Plus is formulated to provide additional moisture. It’s enhanced to keep more moisture on your contacts for 12 hours compared to Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution, based on a laboratory study. It contains 25% more HA vs. Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution; and is the only contact solution to contain an antioxidant (protects HA against free radicals) as well as potassium (an electrolyte found naturally in tears).

STEP 3: Place cleaned contact lenses in the lens case and fill with fresh Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution. Soak at least 4 hours. Remember to always use fresh solution – discard solution from lens case after each use.

Your lenses are now ready to wear. If any debris remains on contact lenses, rinse with Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution prior to insertion.

No, Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution is not indicated for use directly in the eye as a rewetting solution for contact lenses.

If not wearing contact lenses immediately, store in closed lens case.

Do not store your lenses in saline in place of Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution. Saline solution will not disinfect. Lenses may be stored in the unopened case until ready to wear, up to a maximum of 30 days.

If you store your lenses for longer than 30 days, they must be cleaned and disinfected with fresh Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution prior to lens insertion.

Discard any remaining solution 90 days after opening the bottle. Use before the expiration date marked on the carton and bottle.

Yes, that’s normal! Those are the cleaners and conditioners used to clean and hydrate your contacts. It is perfectly fine to use.

You can put the Biotrue box and bottle in your curbside recycling. They are recyclable in any standard recycling program.

However, small pieces of plastic such as lens cases, contact lens solution caps, and eye drop bottles are typically too small to be recycled in standard recycling. Bausch & Lomb collaborates with Terracycle. You can collect these small plastics and have them shipped to Terracycle.

Laboratory studies (Scheuer, 2022) showed that contact lenses conditioned with Biotrue Hydration Plus Contact Lens Solution can hold onto hyaluronan (HA) for up to 20 hours. This helps keep lenses hydrated all day. The greatest HA release occurred in the initial hours after soaking, supporting immediate hydration at the start of wear. HA was continuously released over time for up to 20 hours, supporting comfort and lasting hydration throughout the day.

Wettability describes how well tears spread across a contact lens. When a lens has good wettability, tears coat it smoothly, helping the lens stay moist and comfortable. If wettability is poor, tears can bead up or break apart, which may make the lens feel dry or uncomfortable.
Recent publications (Schaeffer, 2025) found that in a 3-month clinical analysis of patients using Biotrue Hydration Plus Contact Lens Solution, lenses remained wettable over the course of the study. 98.2% of lenses showed clinically acceptable wettability at the 1-month visit, and 99.6% or greater at all other visits.
